Quiver Tree Forest
On the way down to Fish River Canyon, just before Keetmanshoop, you have the option of a quick detour to the Quiver Tree Forest. Quiver Trees are actually large aloes, not trees, and are so named because the bushmen used to use the hollow branches as quivers for their arrows... I would suggest not to bother to be honest - you see the trees at Fish River Canyon, altho' not in such large numbers, but I did feel like you were paying quite a lot to see... well... some trees! The price of entry also gave access to a large field where apparently they kept cheetahs (the cheetahs were not there the day we were) and access to the Giant's Playground, which we didn't bother with once we heard that it was a 5km drive on a bumpy gravel road, followed by a 20 minute hike. However the stop off did give Simon a chance to get some sun...
